JAMB CBT practice & UTME mock exams

Get comfortable with the computer-based test before exam day. Timed mocks, a real question palette and instant results with explanations.

What the JAMB CBT is

The UTME is a computer-based test (CBT). You read each question on a screen and choose your answer with the mouse or keyboard. Many students know the topics well but lose marks because the screen, the timer and the pressure feel strange. Practising in CBT mode before the exam fixes that.

The usual UTME format

In recent years the UTME has followed this pattern. Always confirm the current format with JAMB.

PartUsual pattern
Subjects4 subjects: Use of English (compulsory) + 3 subjects for your course
MarksUp to 400 in total, 100 per subject
QuestionsUse of English has more questions than the other subjects
DurationAbout 2 hours for all four subjects together
ModeComputer-based, multiple choice (A–D)

Getting used to the CBT screen

The iSharp CBT mode is designed to feel like the real thing:

  • A visible countdown timer.
  • A question palette so you can jump to any question and see which ones you have answered.
  • Previous and Next buttons, and the option to switch between subjects.
  • A final submit screen, then your score and full explanations.

Practise with the same keyboard habits you'll use in the hall. Many CBT centres let you use letter keys to pick options and keys to move between questions, so get comfortable with both mouse and keyboard.

Time management tips

  1. Do one quick pass. Answer everything you know straight away and flag the hard ones.
  2. Don't get stuck. If a question takes more than about a minute, move on and come back.
  3. Never leave blanks. There is no negative marking in the usual UTME format, so make your best choice.
  4. Watch the clock at checkpoints. Check your progress at the halfway mark.
  5. Take full mocks. In the last weeks, take at least one full timed CBT mock every few days on iSharp.

On exam day

  • Arrive early with every document your exam slip asks for.
  • Read the instructions on the screen carefully before you start.
  • Stay calm. If your system has an issue, raise your hand and tell the official.

The iSharp app sends a calm exam-day message with a checklist on the morning of your exam. Want more practice first? Start with JAMB past questions by topic.

Always confirm official details. Exam formats, dates and rules can change from year to year. Check the latest information on the official website of the exam body before you register or sit the exam.

Frequently asked questions

Is the iSharp CBT exactly like the JAMB CBT?

It is designed to feel very similar: a timer, a question palette, navigation buttons and a submit screen. The exact look of JAMB's software can differ, so the goal is to get you comfortable with timed, on-screen practice.

How many mocks should I take before UTME?

Aim for at least 6 to 10 full timed mocks in the final month, and review every mistake after each one.

Is there negative marking in JAMB?

The usual UTME format has no negative marking, so you should answer every question. Confirm the current rules with JAMB.

Can I take CBT mocks offline?

Yes, once you've downloaded the offline packs for your subjects in the app.
